Olga Sophie Kauppinen (b.1988) is an oil painter from Helsinki, Finland.
Kauppinen artwork exists in a constant swinging equilibrium between figuration, abstraction, sculpture, painting and drawing. Non-linearity and intuition work as baseline points for creating paitings, which challenge the limitations of tarditional oil painting. As a dychotomy, her material choices reflect a classical approach, learned through a deep exploration into material: rabbit skin glue, charcoal, dry pastels, woodworking, and oils.
Her reflections on painting find resonance in the rebellion of modernism expressed in a contemporary format.
Kauppinen works in closely with her subconscious mind, pulling imagery from an automatic drawing practices, as well as a deep connection to the dream realm.
An other worldly quality is partially a result of this, as is her interest in quantum physics and multidimensionality.
She is mostly a process based artist, who uses painting as a vehicle with which to connect to unseen frequencies.
